فإن الفلسفة المادية الإلحادية الحديثة يعتقد أفرادها أن نهاية العالم لن تكون إلا بإرادة الطبيعة، والقوانين التي تتحكم في ذات الطبيعة، يستوي في ذلك ما كان مصدره تأثير الأفلاك والعناصر، أو ما كان مصدره الأسباب والمسببات من غير حاجة إلى خالق عظيم له القدرة والإرادة والعلم والحياة.       وأكثروا من ذكر ذلك في نظريات بعضها يتعلق بالفلك وهو ما يعرف بالنظريات الفلكية، ومنها موت الشمس، وموت الفلك، والإنكماش النجمي، واضطراب السلوك الكوني. ومنها ما يتعلق بالقوانين والمبادئ الفيزيائية، باعتبار أن نهاية الكون سيكون بيدها لا بيد الله، ويعرف بالنظريات والقوانين الفيزيائية، ومنها: نظريات التركيب الكيميائي، والطاقة والمادة المظلمتين، بجانب التحلل الذهني، وسيطرة التركيب الكيميائي، إلى غير ذلك مما عدوه عوامل إنهدام الكون. ولما كانت هذه النظريات قابلة للترجيح والرجحان فمن المؤكد أنها لا تمثل قوانين علمية، وإنما هي فرضيات قد يسلم بها العقل، وقد لا يسلم، وبخاصة أن النصوص الواردة عن الله تعالى بينت أن نهاية الكون كنشأته تتم بقول الله تعالى: "كن فيكون" وما يخالف هذه القاعدة فإنما يكون ضرباً من الخلل الفكري، وعدواناً على الأمر الإلهي، ومن ثم اخترت موضوع هذا البحث نظريات نهاية الكون في الفلسفة المادية الإلحادية الحديثة وموقف الإسلام منها "نظرية الموت الحراري أنموذجاً" على سبيل العرض والمناقشة.
